BASIC ROLFING® SERIES

Rolfing Structural Integration strives to align and balance the body’s components until the entire system is a smoothly functioning coordinated whole.

For example, the legs are aligned to the hips, shoulders to rib cage, the body is positioned over the feet, and then all of these joints and related tissue are integrated to one another.

A few of the many benefits people have experienced are reduced pain, increased flexibility, an enhanced sense of body awareness, and improved posture.  The basic Rolfing series consists of 10 or more sessions (depending upon each person’s medical history).

THE ROLFING® 10 SERIES:

1)     The first session focuses on the breathe , freeing the torso, shoulders, neck and  head, and beginning  work on the pelvic girdle and hips.

2)     Session two begins the work of support, working on the feet and legs and connecting the support into the spine.

3)     The third session addresses the side body or the lateral line, helping to create depth and length and working with a deeper awareness of  one’s posture and ability to lift through the body.

4)     In the fourth session we begin work with core support and awareness, working on the inner line of the body; inside of the legs into the pelvic floor and  spine.

5)     The fifth session focuses on the front body, working with the torso, freeing  rib and diaphragmatic functionality and addressing length and balance within the  iliopsoas structures.

6)     In the sixth session the client is supine and the work focuses on the back of the legs up through the occiput.

7)     This session is all about the head and neck, creating balance and ease into the shoulder girdle and torso. This is a vital component regarding the ownership of length and lift in the body.

8)     And 9) Sessions 8 and 9 are organizational in nature. These session are an opportunity to re-visit structural imbalances that continue to hinder freedom of movement and alignment  for the client.

10) In the tenth session we focus on closure, enhancing ownership of the changes that have occurred and encouraging a deeper awareness of lift in their body.

In each session there are movement cues offered and homework suggested to reinforce embodiment of the changes from each session.

ADVANCED ROLFING®

After a decade of practice I entered the Advanced Rolfing Training.

The Advanced Rolfing series builds upon the changes created during the Basic Rolfing Series, focusing on the pelvic and shoulder girdles and spinal dynamics.

The Advanced training is a specialized training that a Certified Rolfer is encouraged to take after several years of practice.

The major goals of the Advanced Training are:

  • Developing a systematic approach to mobilizing all the major joints of the body.
  • Developing a more gentle and precise sense of touch.
  • A more comprehensive approach to evaluating the whole person.
  • Designing sessions for the immediate needs of the client.
  • An opportunity to re-visit the Basic 10 series.

The Rolfing 10 series, also known as the recipe, is designed to promote greater alignment and functionality in the human body. Building upon a kineseological framework, each session has very specific goals all designed around the client’s individual needs, expectations and history.

The Rolfing 10 series(the recipe) can be viewed as the kineseological framework the Rolfer uses to achieve a more balanced and graceful body. The recipe is always adapted to the client. At the beginning of the first session there is a conversation regarding expectations, a medical history and any concerns that a new client may have. This is a very important opportunity to help both the Rolfing practitioner and the client  meet each other.

Our Basic Rolfing and Advanced Rolfing services are offered at our Santa Barbara, CA location.  For those who are unable to travel, home visits can be arranged.

The Human body is like a house, its structured so that each part has its proper place and each piece interlocks to balance the load of all the others.

MENTORING

I am often asked to mentor Rolfers and other Alternative Body workers. Practitioners can bring clients to my studio to collaborate with me regarding strategy, technique and practitioners body dynamics. I am able to refine the therapuetic process, enhance client outcome and to facilitate a deepening of both the hands on work and the interaction between practitioner and client. In these mentoring sessions, real time feedback is enormously valuable for both the practitioner and their client.

It is Gravity that is the tool
It is gravity that is the therapist.
